John Caldwell, AIA, LEED AP


A life-long resident of Southern California, John Caldwell has dedicated his 40 year career to crafting lasting relationships with his public clients. His commitment to client service and satisfaction, as well as his detail-driven approach to architecture, has allowed the firm to consistently meet project budget and schedule requirements. Tate Snyder Kimsey | Caldwell’s high quality of service has resulted in a multitude of repeat clientele, including the completion of over 150 projects for a single community college district. His designs have garnered over 40 awards in the past decade, including the 2000 International AIA Business Week/Architectural Record Award for one of the 10 best designed buildings in the world.

John is the Managing Principal of the California office; as such, he oversees regional office operations, and provides oversight of quality control/quality assurance review, as well as financial and administrative management. John leverages his knowledge and experience of the profession and the Southern California marketplace to build on the strong client relationships he has established and works to ensure that all project documentation meets applicable codes and ordinances, as well as the firm’s quality standards.

John is active in both his profession and in the community. He has held Board of Director offices in both the local and regional organizations of the American Institute of Architects, including President of the AIA Long Beach/South Bay Chapter. He was also a Trustee and a Regional Fundraising Chair of CALC PAC and ARC PAC, AIA California Council’s Political Action Committees. He is currently a Trustee of the California Architectural Foundation. He has been a Board member of the Friends of the Schindler House for many years and is currently Executive Vice President. He is an alternate director for the Austrian Government’s MAK Museum’s Governing Board (which operates the arts and education program at the Schindler House). He also has been active on the Board of Directors of the Fourth of July Yacht Club, rising to the position of Commodore in 2003.
