Known for their personal pizzas and unique dessert creations, the nationally recognized eatery, California Pizza Kitchen, and HMSHost approached Tate Snyder Kimsey with the challenge of renovating an existing restaurant space into one of their largest food and beverage airport remodels.

In response, Tate Snyder Kimsey developed a design solution that is both operationally and aesthetically supportive of the owners’ intentions and requirements while meeting the established deadlines.

Close coordination with CPK and franchise representatives was critical in designing the new kitchen layout based on an understanding of the Owner’s equipment and work flow patterns required for an efficient operation.

Aesthetically, the design integrates and highlights brand recognition through use of material and color palettes with visual emphasis on a half-moon center-piece bar with saturated yellow wall tiles, warm stone tile and dark wood treatments, distinctive rounded ceiling features, and wide open seating areas.

The dynamics of airline operations on the airport runway are captured by views from the main seating area and provide an entertaining backdrop to CPK patrons. The openness of the store front is both inviting and gently organized for customers to visual understand the separation between sit down dining and the enticing bar.
