Las Vegas Downtown Redevelopment

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

The City of Las Vegas downtown justice core is currently spread around with the City Hall separated from the Federal Courthouse and the Regional Justice Center by a few blocks. They all currently stand independently flanked by office buildings. In an effort to form a stronger justice core for the City, Tate Snyder Kimsey took it upon them to propose a planned development moving forward that will unite the existing justice facilities and potential future expansions. Multiple studies of the planned development were performed providing options to the city in terms of phasing and scheduling of future construction at downtown Las Vegas.

Tate Snyder Kimsey designed the original Regional Justice Center, and as part of this exercise, proposed the design for the expansion of this facility. In order to form a city justice core, an open air amphitheater was proposed across the justice center with parking underneath. This open ground would be flanked with justice buildings all around the block consisting of offices and court facilities. Some restaurants and public facilities would also be provided to keep the space alive. Contemporary high-art designs were proposed to bring the architecture up in time with more developed cities of the nation and Europe. With highly advanced architectural language and technology, the justice core is dreamt to be a place that is safe day and night, and is the place to be for residents of the city during evenings. By making pedestrian cores and pedestrian friendly streets, and locating vibrant places in the central open plaza, this goal can be achieved.
