Chris Lujan Honored with Prestigious National Award

Date: Feb 19, 2020

TSK Architects is proud to announce that Associate Principal Chris Lujan, AIA, LEED GA has been selected by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) as a recipient of the 2020 Young Architects Award.

This prestigious award honors individuals nationwide who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the architecture profession early in their careers and within the first 10 years of achieving licensure.

Chris will be presented with the Young Architects Award at the 2020 AIA National Conference on Architecture in Los Angeles on May 16th.

Chris received his Master’s of Architecture from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he received the Fielden Medal for Academic Excellence in Architecture and the UNLV College of Fine Arts Most Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year. In addition, he received the AIA Henry Adams Fund Award of Merit for Excellence in the Study of Architecture. Before his graduate studies, Chris received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Mexico. During his time there, he worked for the school’s residence life program, engaging with the student population in a number of roles through social and educational programming. He remains a proud alumnus of both universities and returns regularly to serve as a mentor, lecturer, and visiting juror.

In 2007, Chris joined TSK where he is now an associate principal. He has worked on a wide range of complex projects—from government and commercial to transportation and educational facilities - which are marked by their inclusion of balanced daylighting, strong formal expressions, and bold colors. His work can be seen across Nevada and the Southwest.

Chris’s leadership and involvement with AIA is equal parts mentorship, philanthropy, and advocacy. When then-Nevada State Senator Steven Horsford requested that AIA Las Vegas develop guidelines for diversifying the state’s economy as it recovered from the recession, Chris conducted such thorough and incisive research on multi-modal transportation that it was included verbatim in the resulting publication.

As a member of AIA Nevada, he serves as the State Government Network representative and is a member of AIA’s ArchiPAC Emerging Professionals Committee. His keen interest in legislative advocacy has strengthened the profession, and he has encouraged legislators to support the next generation of design professionals.

Windom Kimsey, President and CEO of TSK Architects, and former winner of the National Young Architects Award in 1998, said: “Recognition at national level is richly deserved. Chris epitomizes the passion and culture of care, quality and cooperation that we all know are so important in our business. His personal passion for sustainable design and his wonderful personality are the fuel that keep TSK growing and evolving.”

TSK, which will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2020, was also recently awarded Nevada’s most prestigious award for architecture practices. The firm collected the 2019 AIA Nevada Architecture Firm Award in recognition of more than 10 years distinguished architecture and service to local communities.
