The design concept for the Shangrao Museum is inspired by an old poem of a local mountain that describes the story between the mountain and clouds. The mountain is stable, while the cloud is dynamic. Once two things work together, it is very hard to tell which one is movable.

The museum’s round massing is dynamic and light like the clouds while the cubic city exhibition center is a metaphor for the mountain being heavy and stable.

During the night, after the hours of the operation, people can gather at the sunken plaza either sitting on the steps to watch the city history movie projected on the façade of the city exhibition center, or wandering around the outside of the museum to enjoy the LED display of the museum façade.
